‘Empty Promises, Failing Policies’ – Dr. Amin Adam Blasts NDC’s ‘Fanciful Governance’

Ghana’s Finance Minister, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, has launched a scathing critique of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing the party of peddling “empty promises” and engaging in “fanciful governance” that lacks realistic policy grounding.

Speaking at a political forum in Accra, Dr. Amin Adam dismissed the NDC’s recently unveiled economic recovery plan, arguing that the proposals are impractical, economically unsound, and designed merely to win votes rather than solve problems.

“Ghanaians deserve honest leadership, not governance built on fantasy,” he said. “The NDC’s record and their current posture show a party that has learned little and changed even less.”

‘No Lessons Learned’ from Past Governance

Dr. Adam highlighted what he called the NDC’s “legacy of mismanagement,” pointing to high inflation, unsustainable debt levels, and stalled infrastructure projects during its previous administration under John Dramani Mahama.

He argued that the same individuals who “collapsed the economy” are now making grand promises they cannot fulfill.

“They are promising millions of jobs without a clear plan for private sector growth, universal development without revenue clarity, and reforms without a track record of delivery,” he noted.

Economic Strategy Under Fire

The NDC’s latest proposals include job creation schemes, tax reforms, and new social protection programs — all of which Dr. Adam described as lacking credible funding sources.

He questioned how the opposition intends to finance their agenda without increasing taxes or worsening Ghana’s debt situation.

“You cannot promise everything to everyone without telling us where the money will come from. That’s not leadership — that’s deception,” Dr. Adam asserted.

NDC Responds

In response, the NDC has dismissed Dr. Adam’s remarks as “panicked propaganda” from a government that has failed to stabilize the economy despite repeated IMF bailouts and rising public debt.

NDC spokesperson Sammy Gyamfi said the party’s proposals are rooted in inclusive governance, economic justice, and lessons from past missteps.

“The NDC has re-strategized and will deliver a people-centered government. This government’s failure to provide jobs, curb inflation, or stabilize the cedi is the real definition of fanciful governance,” Gyamfi shot back.

Political Temperature Rising

The exchange between Dr. Amin Adam and the NDC comes as Ghana edges closer to the 2024 general elections. With the economy a major concern for voters, both parties are intensifying their messaging and laying out competing visions for the country’s future.

Analysts suggest that such fiery exchanges are likely to increase as the campaign season heats up, especially on issues like unemployment, debt, inflation, and corruption.

Conclusion

As political debate sharpens, Ghanaians are left to assess the credibility, track records, and feasibility of promises from both sides. Dr. Amin Adam’s attack on the NDC underscores the stakes in the coming election — one that may ultimately be decided by who voters believe can deliver real solutions over rhetoric.
