Wa, Upper West Region – July 23, 2025
A final-year student of Wa Islamic Senior High School (Wa AMASS) is currently battling for his life at the Wa Municipal Hospital after he was stabbed by a fellow student during a violent confrontation reportedly triggered by a disagreement over a mobile phone video.

According to eyewitnesses, the altercation occurred on campus late Monday afternoon after one student accused another of recording or sharing a private video without consent. The verbal confrontation quickly escalated into a physical fight, during which one of the students allegedly pulled a sharp object and stabbed the victim in the abdomen.

The injured student was rushed by teachers and fellow students to the Wa Municipal Hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition, according to hospital authorities.

????‍♂️ Police Investigations Underway

The Upper West Regional Police Command has launched a full investigation into the incident. The suspect, believed to be a second-year student, has been taken into custody and is assisting police with their investigations.

"We take this matter seriously. We are interviewing witnesses, and appropriate charges will be brought against the suspect once investigations are complete," said DSP Francis Ameyaw, a spokesperson for the regional police.

???? School Authorities Respond

The administration of Wa AMASS expressed shock over the incident and has pledged to strengthen internal disciplinary mechanisms and campus safety protocols. The Headmaster, Mr. Abdul-Wahab Saeed, condemned the attack and assured the public that the school is cooperating fully with law enforcement.

"This is an unfortunate and isolated incident. We will not tolerate violence on our campus. The safety of our students is our top priority," Mr. Saeed told reporters.

The school has also temporarily suspended all non-academic activities while counseling sessions are being arranged for students involved and those affected emotionally.

???? Public Reaction and Growing Concern

Parents and guardians have expressed concern over the rising trend of violent student behavior across some senior high schools in Ghana. Many are calling for stricter rules on mobile phone usage, enhanced security presence on school premises, and mandatory conflict resolution training for students.

"It's sad that something as small as a video could lead to someone being stabbed. Our schools must do more to guide these children," said Hawa Ibrahim, a parent whose son attends the school.

???? Conclusion

As the injured student fights for recovery, the Wa AMASS community is left reeling from an incident that highlights the urgent need for strengthened discipline, conflict management, and digital literacy education within senior high schools.

Authorities are urging the public to refrain from sharing unverified information about the case, as investigations continue.
