MFWA Boss Questions Lack of Prosecution for Isaac Adongo Over Alleged False News
Sulemana Braimah, Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), has raised concerns over the absence of legal action against Bolgatanga Central MP Isaac Adongo for allegedly disseminating false information. Braimah points to potential selective enforcement of Ghana's false news laws, especially when journalists face prosecution for similar offenses.

Accra, Ghana –
Sulemana Braimah, Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), has publicly questioned why Bolgatanga Central Member of Parliament, Isaac Adongo, has not been prosecuted for allegedly spreading false information. This inquiry arises in the context of the Bank of Ghana's (BoG) denial of claims made by Adongo regarding dollar exchange rates at banks.
In a recent statement, Braimah highlighted concerns over the selective application of Ghana's false news laws. He noted that while journalists and ordinary citizens have faced legal consequences for disseminating false information, similar actions have not been taken against certain public officials. Braimah's remarks suggest a potential double standard in the enforcement of these laws.
The BoG previously issued a press release refuting statements made by Adongo, asserting that he provided false data and made unfounded allegations during a press engagement on November 8, 2022. The central bank emphasized that such misinformation could have detrimental effects on the financial system and public trust.
Braimah's concerns underscore the importance of consistent and impartial enforcement of laws pertaining to the dissemination of false information. He advocates for equal accountability, regardless of an individual's position or status, to maintain the integrity of Ghana's legal and democratic institutions.
