No Lessons Learned from Nana Pooley’s Tragic Death – Nations FC Boss Laments After Ayinase Violence
Following violent scenes at Ayinase during a league clash, Nations FC President criticizes authorities for failing to learn from the tragic death of fan Nana Pooley in a similar incident years ago.

Ayinase, Ghana –
President of Nations FC, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, has sharply criticized Ghanaian football authorities and local security arrangements after violent disturbances broke out during their Ghana Premier League clash with Karela United at Ayinase.
The confrontation, which marred what was expected to be a competitive fixture, saw fans invade the pitch, hurl objects, and reportedly assault players and officials — evoking painful memories of the tragic 2020 death of Nana Pooley, a fervent football supporter who died following a similar incident.
“It’s heartbreaking,” Dr. Nkrumah said. “We learned nothing from Nana Pooley’s death. The system has failed. Again.”
⚠️ Déjà Vu of Disaster
Nana Pooley’s death in 2020 shocked the nation and sparked calls for a total overhaul of stadium security protocols. However, Dr. Nkrumah believes those calls have since been ignored.
“We keep moving from tragedy to tragedy without accountability. Ayinase has again shown how unprepared we are to protect players and fans alike,” he said.
Nations FC players reportedly had to be evacuated under police protection while match officials faced threats from angry sections of the crowd.
???? GFA and Police Urged to Act
In response to the incident, Dr. Nkrumah has called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and Ghana Police Service to launch a full-scale investigation and enforce stronger punitive measures against clubs whose fans incite or engage in violence.
He also demanded that the league body reassess stadium licensing, saying:
“If a venue can’t guarantee basic security, it shouldn’t host professional matches.”
⚽ GFA Reaction Pending
As of publication, the GFA had yet to issue an official statement, although insiders say a disciplinary hearing may be scheduled in the coming days to review match reports and eyewitness accounts.
The incident has reignited calls from stakeholders for:
-
Stadium surveillance systems
-
Club responsibility clauses
-
Swift match bans or point deductions
???? Football Community Responds
Social media has been abuzz with outrage and calls for justice, with many echoing the Nations FC boss’s sentiments. Some users noted that the ongoing culture of impunity in Ghanaian football is not only damaging the league’s reputation but also putting lives at risk.
