Dr. Ben K.D. Asante, former CEO of Ghana National Gas Company, has proposed the establishment of an African Energy College during the Forum of Oil and Gas in Africa (FOGA) in Luanda, Angola. The initiative aims to build local capacity and expertise in Africa's energy sector, addressing challenges in oil and gas development across the continent.

At the recently concluded Forum of Oil and Gas in Africa (FOGA) in Luanda, Angola, Dr. Ben K.D. Asante, former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Gas Company, proposed the establishment of an African Energy College. This institution would serve as a center for excellence in energy education, research, and innovation, tailored to the unique needs and challenges of the African continent

Dr. Asante highlighted the pressing need for a specialized institution that can equip African professionals with the requisite skills and knowledge to drive the continent's energy agenda. He emphasized that such a college would play a pivotal role in addressing the skills gap in the oil and gas sector, fostering homegrown expertise, and reducing reliance on foreign specialists.

The proposed African Energy College would focus on practical training, research, and development in areas such as natural gas processing, liquefied natural gas (LNG) technologies, and sustainable energy solutions. By doing so, it aims to empower African nations to harness their vast energy resources effectively and sustainably.
