Economic Reset: Seriously and effectively fight corruption – Mahama told
In the wake of Ghana's recent economic challenges, President John Dramani Mahama is being urged to take decisive action against corruption to facilitate a comprehensive economic reset. Former Auditor-General Daniel Domelevo has emphasized the necessity for the current administration to prevent any corruption scandals, highlighting that Ghanaians are closely monitoring governmental operations, especially those involving key appointees.

Domelevo, a member of the recently established Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Team, stressed the importance of not only addressing past corrupt practices but also implementing measures to prevent future occurrences. He expressed optimism following President Mahama's commitment to both recovery and prevention strategies, noting the President's emphasis on "Operation Prevent All Loot" (OPAL) as a proactive approach to safeguarding public resources.
In a related development, President Mahama has called upon African leaders to intensify their efforts in combating corruption, recognizing it as a significant barrier to economic growth and development. Speaking at the Africa Prosperity Dialogues 2025 in Accra, he underscored the critical need for good governance, transparency, and accountability, asserting that prosperity is unattainable in the presence of corruption.
The President's administration has already initiated steps to address corruption, including the formation of the ORAL Committee, which has received over 2,400 complaints of suspected corruption. This initiative reflects a broader commitment to not only recover misappropriated funds but also to implement stringent measures that deter future malfeasance.
As Ghana navigates its economic recovery, the eradication of corruption remains a pivotal component. The government's dual focus on rectifying past injustices and instituting preventive frameworks is poised to restore public trust and create a conducive environment for sustainable development.
