Haruna Iddrisu, has announced the establishment of a GH¢40 million seed fund to support Ghana’s emerging public universities, as part of the government’s broader effort to strengthen tertiary education and expand equitable access across the country.

The announcement was made during a national education stakeholders' forum held in Accra, where the Minister emphasized the urgent need to build the institutional capacity, infrastructure, and academic quality of newly accredited public universities.

“This GH¢40 million fund is a strategic investment in Ghana’s future. We are creating strong foundations for the next generation of thinkers, innovators, and leaders who will drive the country’s transformation,” said Hon. Iddrisu.
The fund is expected to be disbursed in phases, with strict performance indicators and oversight mechanisms to ensure transparency and accountability.

Each institution will receive tailored support to address their unique challenges, such as faculty recruitment, laboratory setup, digital infrastructure, and accreditation processes.

The initiative forms part of the government's Tertiary Education Transformation Agenda (TETA) aimed at improving equity, research output, and global competitiveness of Ghana’s public universities.
“It’s not just about quantity, but quality. We must equip our institutions to meet 21st-century challenges while supporting regional development through decentralized education,” the Minister added.
