Drunk and Dangerous Driver Remanded in Police Custody After Near-Fatal Incident
A driver believed to be heavily intoxicated and operating a vehicle recklessly has been remanded into police custody by a magistrate court. The suspect was arrested after allegedly endangering public lives and causing property damage. Authorities are urging road users to remain vigilant as investigations continue.

Accra, Ghana – A magistrate court has ordered the remand of a man arrested for dangerous and drunk driving, following an incident that posed serious risks to public safety and caused damage to property.
According to police reports, the suspect—whose name has been withheld pending further investigation—was apprehended over the weekend after eyewitnesses observed him swerving through traffic at high speed along a busy stretch of road.
Initial tests conducted by the police confirmed that the driver was intoxicated well above the legal alcohol limit, raising serious concerns about impaired judgment behind the wheel. His reckless behavior reportedly led to a minor crash involving two other vehicles, though no fatalities were recorded.
The presiding judge, citing the severity of the offense and the potential danger posed to society, remanded the accused into police custody for two weeks to allow for further investigation and possible psychiatric evaluation.
“Drunk driving is a criminal act that endangers the lives of both the driver and innocent road users. We will ensure this case is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” a police spokesperson said.
The Ghana Police Service has since reiterated its commitment to cracking down on traffic offenses and has warned that stiffer penalties await repeat offenders and those who flout road safety regulations.
