Justice Dzamefe Advocates Fixed Case Timelines and Full Digital Reform in Ghana’s Courts

Supreme Court nominee Justice Dzamefe is pushing for bold reforms to modernize Ghana’s justice delivery system, highlighting the need for fixed case timelines and a full transition to digital court operations.
During his vetting by Parliament’s Appointments Committee, Justice Dzamefe expressed concern over the chronic delays and inefficiencies that plague the legal system, saying these challenges erode public confidence and slow national development.
“Justice delayed is justice denied,” he told the committee. “We must put an end to the open-ended nature of legal proceedings and adopt clear, enforceable timelines for every category of case.”
Justice Dzamefe also stressed the urgency of digitizing court operations—from filing to judgment delivery—to reduce paperwork, improve transparency, and curb corruption. He noted that without modern digital infrastructure, the courts remain vulnerable to manipulation and unnecessary bureaucracy.
His reform agenda mirrors long-standing concerns raised by legal professionals, civil society groups, and citizens alike, who often cite the high cost and slow pace of litigation as barriers to justice.
Justice Dzamefe, known for his extensive work in sports law and judicial administration, said he would prioritize innovation and accountability if confirmed to Ghana’s highest court.
Legal analysts and reform advocates have widely welcomed his proposals, calling them “long overdue” and “a step in the right direction.”
