The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of two individuals in connection with illegal possession of firearms and indiscriminate shooting during a funeral ceremony in the Western North Region.

The suspects, whose identities are yet to be disclosed, were apprehended following a swift response by local law enforcement after reports of gunfire during the funeral event. According to police sources, several other individuals believed to be involved managed to flee the scene and are currently being pursued.

“We take incidents like this very seriously. Funerals must be safe and respectful events, not occasions for lawlessness,” a police spokesperson said.

The suspects are currently in custody and assisting with investigations. Police have also retrieved the unlicensed firearms used during the incident.
