Accra, Ghana — The Ghana Police Service has reached out to the Electoral Commission (EC) requesting a detailed roadmap outlining the collation process for the upcoming 2024 parliamentary elections in the Ablekuma North constituency.

This proactive engagement, according to police leadership, is intended to ensure effective security planning and coordination ahead of the hotly anticipated polls. The constituency, known for being electorally competitive, has experienced tensions during past collation periods, prompting increased attention from security agencies.

In a statement issued by the Accra Regional Police Command, the service emphasized the importance of early dialogue and operational clarity:

“We have officially written to the Electoral Commission requesting a roadmap for the 2024 Ablekuma North election collation process. We are committed to providing the highest standard of security for all stakeholders involved.”

The Police Service also reassured political parties, electoral officials, and constituents of its neutrality and readiness to create a secure environment before, during, and after the elections.

The EC is expected to provide timelines, locations, procedures, and personnel responsibilities to help guide security deployment and coordination.

Community leaders and civil society organizations in Ablekuma North have welcomed the move, calling it a “step in the right direction” for preventing violence and restoring public confidence in the electoral process.

Meanwhile, the Police have called on political party leaders in the area to cooperate with the security services and to refrain from inflammatory rhetoric that may inflame tensions.

With less than a year to the general elections, the call for a detailed collation roadmap is expected to set the tone for increased collaboration between the Electoral Commission and Ghana’s law enforcement agencies.
