A shocking case of domestic violence has emerged from Assin Wurakesse in the Central Region of Ghana, where a 25-year-old man, identified as Arhinful, is reported to have brutally assaulted his 53-year-old lover, Grace Mensah, over a dispute regarding the portion of goat meat he was served.
The altercation, which started as a minor misunderstanding, escalated into a violent encounter, leaving Madam Mensah with a fractured leg and multiple injuries. She is currently battling for her life at a nearby hospital, while the suspect has since fled the scene and is being pursued by police.
A Violent Turn Over a Meal
Eyewitnesses say the incident unfolded on Tuesday evening after the couple had a disagreement during supper. Arhinful reportedly accused Madam Mensah of serving him an unsatisfactory portion of goat meat, which sparked a heated argument. Matters quickly spiraled out of control, leading to a physical attack that left the older woman seriously injured.
One neighbor, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the scene as “traumatic and disturbing,” adding that “no one expected such violence over something as trivial as food.”
Victim in Critical Condition
Medical sources confirm that Madam Grace Mensah sustained a fractured leg bone, alongside facial bruises and deep lacerations, requiring intensive medical attention. She is currently receiving treatment at St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Assin Fosu.
Family members say the two had been in a relationship for nearly two years, though not without turbulence. “We always knew there were tensions between them, but this... this is beyond shocking,” a relative said.
Police Launch Manhunt
The Assin Fosu District Police Command has confirmed that a manhunt is underway for Arhinful, who reportedly fled shortly after the incident. Authorities are urging members of the public with any information about his whereabouts to assist in the ongoing investigation.
“We take cases of domestic violence seriously and will ensure that justice is served,” said a spokesperson from the police department. They added that the suspect will face charges of assault and grievous bodily harm once apprehended.
