Western North Regional Minister Reaffirms Government’s Commitment to Constructing Regional Hospital

WNR: Regional Minister Pledges Government’s Commitment to Constructing a Regional Hospital

The Western North Regional Minister, Hon. Richard Ebbah Obeng, has reaffirmed the government’s dedication to constructing a state-of-the-art regional hospital to serve the growing healthcare needs of the region.

Speaking during a community engagement event in Sefwi Wiawso, the regional capital, the Minister emphasized that plans for the hospital are not only on course but also a top priority for the government as part of its broader health infrastructure agenda.

“We are fully committed to providing the Western North Region with a modern, fully equipped regional hospital. It is not just a promise—it is a priority,” Hon. Obeng stated.

Bridging the Healthcare Gap

Currently, the Western North Region is without a fully functioning regional hospital, forcing residents to travel to the Ashanti or Western regions for specialized care. This has raised concerns about access to timely and quality healthcare, especially during emergencies.

The proposed facility, once completed, is expected to include:

  • Emergency and trauma units

  • Surgical and maternity wards

  • Diagnostic laboratories and imaging centers

  • Residential accommodation for medical staff

Hon. Obeng noted that the hospital project is part of the government’s “Agenda 111” initiative, which aims to build hospitals across underserved districts and regions in Ghana.

Community Reaction

Local chiefs and opinion leaders welcomed the Minister’s assurance but called for clear timelines and visible progress. Many emphasized that previous promises regarding the hospital had yet to materialize into action.

“We appreciate the commitment, but we want to see the machines on the ground and work beginning. Our people deserve better,” said Nana Kwadwo Tano II, a traditional leader in the region.

Looking Ahead

The Regional Minister concluded by urging patience and trust in the government’s vision for equitable healthcare access. He also assured residents that feasibility studies, land acquisition, and funding discussions are at advanced stages.
