A substantial majority of Assembly Members in the Atwima Mponua District have united in a formal petition to President John Mahama, advocating for the appointment of Sakina Oforiwaa as the District Chief Executive (DCE). The petition, initially signed by 34 members on May 9, 2025, has garnered additional support, bringing the total to 40 out of 50 members, surpassing the two-thirds majority threshold required for such endorsements .

Sakina Oforiwaa, a former Assemblywoman for the Adobewura Electoral Area and a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communication team, is lauded for her unwavering commitment to the district's development. The Assembly Members emphasize her consistent engagement with traditional authorities, youth groups, civil society organizations, and the broader community, which has earned her widespread admiration and support.

"Hon. Sakina Oforiwaa is a woman of proven integrity, commitment, and leadership," the petition states. "Her consistent engagement with traditional authorities, youth groups, civil society organizations, and the broader community has earned her widespread admiration and support. She has demonstrated a deep understanding of the needs of our people and has actively contributed to development efforts within the district."

The Assembly Members also highlight her tangible contributions, including the donation of 30 motorbikes to Assembly Members and the provision of free meals to polling agents of all political parties during the last general election.

The petitioners underscore the urgency of appointing a substantive DCE, noting that the prolonged vacancy has hindered effective governance and stalled critical development projects. They assert that Oforiwaa's appointment would not only fill this leadership void but also align with President Mahama's commitment to ensuring that 30% of government appointments are held by women.

"In light of the above, we respectfully appeal to Your Excellency, in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development, to consider and expedite her nomination," the petition concludes. "We are prepared to fully support and confirm her appointment without reservation upon nomination."

The Assembly Members' collective endorsement reflects a strong consensus on the need for decisive leadership to propel the district's development agenda. As the district awaits a response from the presidency, the call for Oforiwaa's appointment continues to gain momentum among stakeholders.
