Ghanaian midfielder Lawrence Agyekum has officially signed a four-year permanent contract with Belgian Pro League club Cercle Brugge, extending his stay until 2029. During his loan tenure, Agyekum made a significant impact, featuring in 44 matches across all competitions, netting two goals and providing two assists. His consistent performances and adaptability in midfield convinced Cercle Brugge to exercise the purchase option in his loan agreement, securing his services for the long term..
Expressing his enthusiasm, Agyekum stated, “It’s been a busy season already, but I’m grateful to God for where I am today. I’m happy to stay at Cercle and looking forward to what’s next”
Cercle Brugge's Sporting Director, Rembert Vromant, praised Agyekum's qualities, saying, “He’s a versatile midfielder with strong technical skills, and he fits perfectly into our playing style. We believe in his continued development” .
Agyekum began his professional career with Ghana's WAFA SC before moving to RB Salzburg in 2022. He also had a stint with FC Liefering, Salzburg's feeder team, where he accumulated valuable experience. His performances have not gone unnoticed at the international level, earning him a debut for the Ghana national team in March 2025 during the World Cup qualifiers.
Despite interest from French clubs Strasbourg and FC Nantes, Agyekum chose to continue his development with Cercle Brugge, where he has become an integral part of the team's midfield setup
