Domelevo Criticizes Mahama’s Prioritization of ‘Fruitless and Wasteful’ Hajj Village Project

Domelevo, known for his strong stance on fiscal discipline and accountability, questioned the government’s spending priorities, emphasizing that resources should be directed toward critical sectors such as education, healthcare, and economic recovery.

“With the country struggling to stabilize its economy, one would expect that limited resources be channeled into projects that yield long-term national benefits. It is astonishing that amidst rising debt and economic hardships, such a project is being prioritized,” he remarked.

The Hajj Village project, aimed at improving facilities for Ghanaian Muslim pilgrims traveling to Mecca, has sparked debate over whether religious infrastructure should take precedence over pressing developmental needs. Supporters argue that the initiative will enhance the pilgrimage experience and reduce logistical challenges, while critics, including Domelevo, believe it diverts funds from more urgent national concerns.

As discussions continue, analysts and civil society groups are calling for greater transparency and accountability in government spending to ensure that national resources are utilized effectively in addressing Ghana’s economic recovery.
