Ghana's Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested a British woman at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) for attempting to smuggle 17.72 kilograms of cannabis onto British Airways flight BA 2066 from Accra to Gatwick. The arrest occurred on Sunday, May 19, 2025, during routine security checks.
According to NACOC officials, the suspect's suitcase contained 32 slabs of substances suspected to be cannabis. Subsequent testing confirmed the substance as cannabis, with a total weight of 17.72 kilograms. The woman was immediately taken into custody and transferred to NACOC headquarters for further investigation.
This arrest comes less than 24 hours after a separate incident involving another British national who arrived at KIA from Thailand via Dubai with 53.6 kilograms of cannabis concealed in two suitcases. That operation also led to the arrest of a customs officer and an airport porter suspected of assisting in the smuggling attempt.
NACOC has emphasized that these back-to-back arrests underscore the agency's increased vigilance and collaboration with other security entities to clamp down on drug trafficking through Ghana's main international airport. The Commission continues to investigate both cases to determine any potential links between the suspects and broader drug trafficking networks.
