Asante Kotoko legend George Kennedy has thrown his support behind interim head coach Abdul Karim Zito, advocating for his permanent appointment should he guide the team to a domestic double this season.
Zito, who stepped in following the departure of Prosper Narteh Ogum, has maintained an unbeaten record, leading the Porcupine Warriors to the final of the MTN FA Cup and keeping them in contention for the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League title.
In an interview with Akoma FM, Kennedy questioned the rationale behind seeking a new coach if Zito achieves such significant success.
“It is too early to determine who should be hired as the next coach. If Zito is performing very well and winning all available matches, what criteria will you use to hire someone else as the substantive coach? That cannot happen. So let us hope that Zito continues to perform and wins the league and the FA Cup for Kotoko, then we are through. There will be no need for hiring another coach for Kotoko because Zito gave his all. What we want is results, and the outcomes are that Zito has earned us the double, so what again
Zito's coaching credentials include leading Ghana's U-20 national team to victory in the 2021 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations and a successful stint with Dreams FC.
As Kotoko prepares for a crucial Matchday 31 fixture against Dreams FC at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday, all eyes will be on Zito's ability to maintain the team's momentum and edge closer to a historic double.
