MP Thomas Anaba Slams GRNMA Leadership Over Prolonged Nurses and Midwives Strike
Dr. Thomas Anaba, an influential member of Parliament’s Health Committee, attributes the persistence of the nationwide nurses and midwives strike to poor leadership within GRNMA. He urges collective engagement and responsible action to bring swift resolution for the welfare of patients and health professionals alike.

Accra, Ghana – June 10, 2025 –
Dr. Thomas Anaba, Member of Parliament and Health Committee member, has publicly criticized the leadership of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) for their role in perpetuating the current strike by nurses and midwives across the country. The industrial action began several weeks ago as healthcare staff press for better working conditions and improved welfare.
In a statement released this morning, Dr. Anaba emphasized that the continuation of the strike underscores leadership failures:
“While their grievances are valid, protracted industrial action signals ineffective leadership within the association,” he asserted
He urged the GRNMA leadership to engage in sincere dialogue with government negotiators and to exercise restraint for the greater public interest.
Dr. Anaba further expressed concern over the adverse effects on healthcare delivery:
“Our hospitals are overstretched, patient care is suffering, and lives are at risk,” he warned .
Dr. Anaba called on all stakeholders—including the Ministry of Health, the Ghana Health Service, and medical professionals—to collaboratively mediate the dispute. He stressed the need for transparent negotiation processes to rebuild trust and swiftly restore normal health services.
As the strike enters another week, political and professional actors are urging swift resolution to avert further harm to patients and alleviate the strain on families and communities.
