Renowned Ghanaian businessman and philanthropist Seidu Agongo has made a significant donation of GHS500,000 to the MahamaCares Fund, a charitable initiative spearheaded by former President John Dramani Mahama to support Ghana’s social protection and economic relief efforts.
The donation, announced during a brief ceremony in Accra, underscores Agongo’s longstanding commitment to national development and citizen welfare, particularly during economically challenging times.
Speaking at the event, Seidu Agongo highlighted the need for private sector collaboration in building resilient communities and protecting the nation’s most vulnerable citizens.
“This contribution is a call to action — not just for me, but for other well-meaning Ghanaians and institutions to join hands in supporting initiatives that uplift lives,” Agongo said. “We cannot leave the responsibility of care and support solely to government; we all have a role to play.”
The MahamaCares Fund, established by the former president, channels resources toward key sectors such as health, education, job creation, youth empowerment, and small business recovery. It also supports direct interventions in deprived communities, offering scholarships, healthcare assistance, and food relief.
Former President Mahama, who was represented at the ceremony, expressed deep appreciation for the gesture, describing Agongo as “a patriotic Ghanaian with a heart for service.”
“This is not the first time Mr. Agongo has extended his support to national causes. His generosity today reaffirms his belief in collective progress,” Mahama stated.
The donation comes at a time when Ghanaians are facing high inflation, rising costs of living, and intermittent power supply — conditions that have intensified calls for enhanced social protection.
Agongo’s contribution has been widely applauded across political and civic circles as an example of responsible citizenship and a testament to the private sector’s potential role in national transformation.
