In the wake of a growing scandal, Transparency International Ghana (TIG) has publicly urged former President John Dramani Mahama to take immediate action regarding the alleged cash donation made by Ghana Gold Board CEO Sammy Gyamfi to controversial evangelist Nana Agradaa.

The call comes after a viral video surfaced, in which Agradaa referenced receiving money from Gyamfi—a revelation that has stirred public concern and triggered questions about ethical conduct and transparency in public service.

TIG, a local chapter of the global anti-corruption watchdog, expressed dismay over the allegations in a statement issued Monday. “Such financial transactions, especially when linked to individuals with a history of fraud and legal troubles, raise serious concerns about accountability and the ethical standards expected of public officials,” the statement read.

The organization is urging President Mahama—under whose potential administration Gyamfi is believed to hold significant political clout—to publicly address the matter and demonstrate his commitment to transparency and clean governance.

“This is not just about Sammy Gyamfi,” said Madam Akosua Mensah, TIG’s Programs Director. “It’s about the precedent we set for the country. Ghanaians deserve to know that those in or aspiring to public office are not secretly funding individuals whose actions undermine public trust.”

Agradaa, born Patricia Asiedua, has long been a figure of controversy, with past criminal charges involving fraud and false pretenses. Her association with Gyamfi, especially in the context of monetary gifts, has raised eyebrows across Ghana’s civil society, opposition, and even among some NDC loyalists.

In response to the allegations, Sammy Gyamfi has yet to issue a formal statement. However, party insiders suggest internal consultations are ongoing as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) seeks to contain any fallout that could affect the former president’s 2024 campaign strategy.

Political analysts say the issue could snowball if not addressed quickly. “Transparency is not optional in today’s political climate. Voters are watching,” noted political science lecturer Dr. Ernest Adu-Gyamfi of KNUST.

As pressure mounts, all eyes are now on President Mahama to either publicly comment or initiate internal disciplinary processes. Transparency International Ghana insists anything less will be seen as tacit approval of questionable conduct.
