Bunkprugu-Nakpanduri MP Urges Job Creation to Prevent Youth Involvement in Conflicts

Bunkprugu, North East Region – The Member of Parliament for Bunkprugu-Nakpanduri, Hon. Abed-Nego Bandim, has urged the government to urgently focus on job creation and economic empowerment for young people as a tool to prevent their recruitment into violent conflicts.

Speaking during a peace and development forum in the constituency, the MP highlighted the strong link between unemployment, poverty, and youth involvement in regional clashes, stressing that lack of opportunity often leaves vulnerable young people susceptible to manipulation by conflict actors.

"Our young people need jobs, not guns. If we want to break the cycle of violence in the North, we must first address the economic desperation that fuels it," he stated.

He called on government agencies, development partners, and NGOs to invest in skills training, small business support, and community-based employment to steer youth toward constructive paths.

✅ Conclusion:
As conflict hotspots continue to emerge in Northern Ghana, Hon. Bandim’s remarks underscore the urgent need to tackle the root causes of unrest — especially youth unemployment. Sustainable peace, he argues, must go hand in hand with inclusive economic growth.
