 Michael Kpakpo Allotey takes over as Mayor of Accra after securing 100% approval

Michael Kpakpo Allotey has been unanimously confirmed as the new Mayor of Accra, securing 100% approval from all 30 Assembly Members during a Special General Assembly Meeting held on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at the Accra City Hall. The election, supervised by the Electoral Commission and Greater Accra Regional Minister Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, surpassed the two-thirds majority required under Section 20 of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936) 

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Allotey expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for his appointment and acknowledged the contributions of his predecessors. He pledged to build upon their achievements and emphasized a commitment to revitalizing Accra, stating, "We are going to reset Accra—starting now," and adding, "what God cannot do does not exist"  

Mr. Allotey brings over a decade of experience in the private sector, having worked in real estate, petroleum, and logistics. He previously served as CEO of Our God Is Good Real Estate, contributing significantly to job creation and infrastructure development. Politically, he has held several leadership positions within the National Democratic Congress (NDC), most recently as Director of Operations for the Okaikwei South Constituency . 

The confirmation was met with widespread support, and Mr. Allotey is expected to address pressing challenges in the city, including sanitation, urban congestion, housing, youth unemployment, and social equity, with innovation and integrity
