Atimpoku, Eastern Region — The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has confirmed the arrest of several notorious drug traffickers following a successful raid in Atimpoku on Tuesday morning. The targeted operation, conducted with support from national security operatives, resulted in the seizure of a substantial cache of illegal narcotics and smuggling tools.
According to a statement from NACOC, the suspects are believed to be part of a well-organized trafficking syndicate with regional and cross-border links. Intelligence-led surveillance had tracked their activities for months before the coordinated strike took place.
“The operation in Atimpoku is a major breakthrough in our ongoing efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks across the country,” said Mr. Francis Torkornoo, Deputy Commissioner of NACOC. “This is a message to all criminal elements — Ghana will not be a safe haven for illicit drug trade.”
Confiscated items include multiple kilograms of processed cannabis, methamphetamine, and unidentified white substances pending laboratory analysis. Authorities also impounded vehicles, communication devices, and packaging equipment believed to be used for distribution.
Local residents in Atimpoku expressed both shock and relief at the arrests, with some praising NACOC for acting decisively. “We’ve heard whispers of illegal activity around here, but this confirms it. It’s a good step for the safety of our community,” one resident shared anonymously.
NACOC says the suspects are currently in custody and will be processed for court following further investigations. The agency also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious drug-related activity to the appropriate authorities.
This latest raid underscores Ghana’s growing commitment to tackling narcotics trafficking, which continues to pose a threat to national security, youth development, and public health.
