Ghana’s Minister of Education has reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, assuring stakeholders of continuous and sustainable funding to ensure its long-term success.

Accra, Ghana – Ghana’s Minister of Education has pledged that the government will continue to provide sustained funding for the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, describing it as a transformative initiative for national development and social equity.
Speaking at a stakeholder forum in Accra, the Minister emphasized that education remains at the heart of the country’s development agenda. “The Free SHS policy is not just a campaign promise — it is a long-term investment in our youth and our future. Government is committed to sustaining it with the needed financial support,” he said.
The announcement comes amid growing concerns about the sustainability of the program due to Ghana's economic challenges and delays in disbursements to some schools.
Despite the challenges, the Minister highlighted key successes of the policy, including increased enrollment, improved gender parity, and reduced dropout rates in public senior high schools across the country.
He also assured school heads and parents that the Ministry is working closely with the Ministry of Finance to ensure timely release of funds for feeding, infrastructure, and teaching materials.
