GFA and Sports Ministry join forces to tackle safety concerns ahead of GPL restart

This initiative comes in the wake of the tragic incident involving Asante Kotoko supporter Nana Pooley, who was fatally stabbed during a match against Nsoatreman at Nsoatre, prompting widespread concern over matchday security.

The GFA has announced that the GPL is set to resume with Matchday 23 fixtures scheduled between Friday, March 7, and Monday, March 10, 2025. This resumption is contingent upon the successful completion of safety and security assessments currently being conducted at all league venues.

As part of the Enhanced Matchday Safety and Security Protocols 2025, developed in collaboration with clubs, the GFA and the Sports Ministry are focusing on critical areas such as crowd control and emergency response. Stakeholder engagements have been ongoing, involving clubs, security agencies, and match officials, to ensure a unified approach to implementing these protocols.

The GFA emphasizes that the league will only resume once all venues have met the required safety standards. They urge full cooperation from all stakeholders, including the Ghana Police Service, to maintain a secure environment for players, officials, and fans as the 2024-25 Ghana Premier League season continues.
