Ghanaian socialite and musician Mona Faiz Montrage, popularly known as Hajia4Reall, has been released from the Federal Detention Center in Philadelphia today, after serving a one-year and one-day sentence for her involvement in a multi-million-dollar romance scam.

Montrage, 32, was convicted for conspiring to receive stolen funds linked to a West Africa-based criminal enterprise that defrauded elderly Americans of over $2 million through online romance scams and other fraudulent schemes. She personally received money from approximately 40 victims via U.S.-based bank accounts established under false pretenses.

Extradited from the United Kingdom to the United States in May 2023, Montrage pleaded guilty in February 2024 and was sentenced on June 28, 2024, by U.S. District Judge J. Paul Oetken. In addition to her prison term, she was ordered to forfeit $216,475 and pay restitution totaling $1,387,458 to her victims. She will also serve three years of supervised release.

Court documents indicate that Montrage's legal team secured approval for her return to Ghana following her release. Her lawyers have stated that she intends to make meaningful contributions to society upon her return home.

Montrage rose to fame through her social media presence, amassing over 3.4 million followers on Instagram, and launched a music career in 2020 under the stage name Hajia4Reall.
