I Have Taken the Code of Conduct as a Bible – Edudzi Tameklo Declares

Respected legal practitioner and member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) legal team, Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, has reaffirmed his commitment to ethical political practice, saying he has adopted the party’s Code of Conduct as his “Bible.”

Speaking in a recent media interview, Tameklo underscored the importance of maintaining discipline, integrity, and unity within the party as Ghana prepares for a crucial election year. His remarks come amid increasing calls for political actors to uphold professionalism and party discipline in the face of growing political tension.

“I have taken the code of conduct as a Bible. It guides everything I do in public and in private. I believe the NDC must show Ghanaians that we are serious about values and discipline,” Tameklo stated.

The NDC’s Code of Conduct, adopted as part of its internal reforms, aims to ensure all party executives, members, and communicators operate within the boundaries of respect, non-defamation, and decorum—especially in media engagements and inter-party debates.

Tameklo, known for his bold and articulate legal defenses of the party, has often been at the forefront of political discourse in Ghana. However, he insisted that passion must not override principle.

“Politics doesn’t mean recklessness. We can be firm without being foul. We can speak truth to power without slander. That is what I stand for,” he added.

Party insiders say Tameklo’s firm stance on ethical conduct is gaining traction among younger party members who view him as a role model in balancing legal advocacy with moral uprightness.

His remarks come at a time when political communication across Ghana is under increased scrutiny, with civil society groups urging parties to clamp down on inflammatory language and character assassination ahead of the 2024 general elections.

Reacting to his comments, political analysts praised Tameklo’s call for integrity, describing it as timely and necessary. “In a political environment often marred by mudslinging, voices like his offer hope for a more mature democratic space,” said political scientist Dr. Amanda Boakye.

As the NDC intensifies its preparations for the polls, Tameklo’s words may serve as both a reminder and a challenge—to his party and the broader political landscape—to hold fast to values that build rather than divide.
