John Dumelo Speaks on Taking Over NDC’s Flagbearer Position After Mahama’s Tenure
Ghanaian actor-turned-politician, John Dumelo, has sparked political discussions after addressing the possibility of contesting for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer position once former President John Dramani Mahama’s tenure ends.

Speaking in an exclusive interview, Dumelo acknowledged that while his focus remains on serving his constituency and contributing to the party’s success, he is open to future leadership opportunities within the NDC.
“For now, my priority is to support President Mahama and ensure the NDC’s vision is realized. However, if the time comes and the party believes in my leadership, I will not shy away from the responsibility,” Dumelo stated.
His comments have generated mixed reactions within the party, with some supporters welcoming the idea of youthful leadership, while others believe the NDC has more experienced political figures who may be better suited for the role.
Dumelo, who previously contested for the Ayawaso West Wuogon parliamentary seat, has been actively involved in grassroots politics, earning him significant support among the party’s youth. Political analysts believe his growing influence within the NDC could position him as a formidable candidate in future leadership contests.
As Ghana’s political landscape evolves, all eyes will be on Dumelo’s next moves and whether he will officially declare his intentions when the NDC begins its search for a post-Mahama flagbearer.
