Deborah Adablah, who sued ‘Sugar Daddy,’ gets jailed 45 days for contemp

Deborah Seyram Adablah, a former National Service personnel in Ghana, has been sentenced to 45 days in prison by the Accra High Court for contempt of court. The conviction stems from two videos she posted on social media, wherein she made disparaging remarks about the judiciary, particularly targeting Justice John Bosco Nabarese, who presided over her previous civil case against a former partn   In the videos, Adablah accused the judge of bias and unprofessional conduct, questioned the integrity of Ghana's judiciary, and dismissed the contempt proceedings as "dead on arrival." These actions were deemed by the court as a direct attack on its authority and integrity, leading to her conviction and sentencing

Adablah's legal troubles began in January 2023 when she filed a lawsuit against Ernest Kwasi Nimako, a banking executive she referred to as her "sugar daddy." She alleged that he failed to fulfill promises made during their relationship, including the provision of a car, accommodation, monthly allowances, and a lump sum to start a business. The court dismissed her claims in November 2023, ruling that the relationship was based on an immoral and illegal act, specifically fornication for financial gain, and thus could not form the basis of a legal contract.   Following the dismissal, the court ordered Adablah to return a Honda Civic vehicle involved in the dispute and pay GH¢6,000 in costs. Her subsequent social media posts criticizing the judiciary led to the contempt proceedings and her eventual imprisonment.
