U-20 AFCON: Reaching the Final Is Our Main Target – Black Satellites Coach Desmond Ofei

Accra, Ghana — Head coach of Ghana’s U-20 national football team, Desmond Ofei, has set the tone for the team’s ambition heading into the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), declaring that their "main target is to reach the final."

In a recent media interaction, Coach Ofei shared that preparations are well underway and that the current squad possesses the talent, determination, and tactical discipline needed to compete at the highest level in the tournament.

“The target is clear — we are aiming to reach the final. We respect all our opponents, but we believe in our work, our players, and the Ghanaian spirit,” Ofei stated.

The Black Satellites, known for their historic triumphs in youth football — including their famous U-20 World Cup win in 2009 — are looking to reclaim continental dominance after recent underwhelming performances.

Coach Ofei praised the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for its support and assured fans that the team is building a strong mentality both on and off the pitch.

“The players understand what’s at stake. It’s not just about football — it’s about representing the entire nation. We are instilling discipline, teamwork, and the hunger to win,” he added.

The team is currently in training camp, with a focus on fitness, team chemistry, and tactical drills. Several players from the domestic league and foreign-based talents have been scouted and invited to bolster the squad.

Football analysts believe Ghana stands a strong chance of making a deep run in the tournament, provided they maintain consistency and avoid injuries.
