⚖️ Ahmed Suale Murder: AG Yet to Advise on Case – Police Prosecutor

Accra, Ghana – June 18, 2025 – Despite recent developments in the investigation of investigative journalist Ahmed Hussein‑Suale's murder, the Office of the Attorney‑General has not yet provided prosecutorial advice, according to police prosecutors.

???? Case Background

On January 16, 2019, Ahmed Hussein‑Suale, an undercover journalist with Tiger Eye PI known for high‑profile exposés such as the “Number 12” football corruption series, was assassinated in his vehicle by unknown assailants  Since then, no arrests had been made—leading to repeated criticism from the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA).

????️ Investigation Pressure & New Lead

Earlier this year, the GJA issued multiple ultimatums demanding updates from the Ghana Police Service, including a March 2025 deadline and threats to escalate the matter to the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice

On March 19, 2025, the arrest and court arraignment of Daniel Owusu Koranteng (alias “Amakye”) marked the first tangible breakthrough in the The GJA described this as “a significant step” but stressed the urgent need to apprehend ❗ Prosecutorial Delay

However, a police prosecutor has confirmed that, as of now, the Office of the Attorney‑General has not yet provided advice on proceeding with the charges. The former Deputy AG, Alfred Tuah Yeboah, previously commented that earlier investigations were "insufficient evidence" to support prosecution, though he welcomed recent arrests

???? Why This Matters

  • Justice delayed: Without AG guidance, court proceedings may stall, undermining accountability.

  • Public trust: The GJA and civil society continue to press for transparency and closure in Suale’s assassination.

  • Prosecutorial role: The AG’s office is critical for advancing murder cases; any delay raises fears of impunity.

✔️ Looking Forward

  1. Awaiting AG advice: Prosecutors need definitive instruction to file charges and proceed to trial.

  2. Further arrests: Police continue efforts to identify and apprehend remaining suspects.

  3. Civil society vigilance: The GJA has signaled it will keep up pressure and may escalate to international legal forums if delays persist.

???? Summary

Though the arrest of a suspect marks progress in the Ahmed Suale murder investigation, the absence of prosecutorial advice from the AG’s office risks undermining the path to justice. With public scrutiny intensifying, Ghana's legal machinery may soon face pressure to act decisively.
