Accra, Ghana – June 18, 2025 – The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has successfully wrapped up the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) today, with over 603,000 candidates completing the exams across 2,237 centres nationwide. Officials commended the overall smooth conduct, acknowledging minor challenges that were effectively

• The exams, held from June 11 to 18, registered 603,328 participants—297,250 males and 306,078 females—from 20,395 schools and 1,661 private candidates 

• WAEC ensured inclusivity by making reasonable adjustments for candidates with special educational needs 

⚠️ Minor Hiccups & Quick Response

• Ten individuals—including candidates and invigilators—were arrested for cheating, collusion, and possession of unauthorized materials. These suspects have been referred to the police for prosecution 

• A few late starts were reported in some centres, as monitors implemented heightened anti-malpractice protocols. However, these delays were minor and addressed swiftly
